Taking care of your scalp and the importance of a healthy scalp is the number one step and starting point to overall healthy curls. Healthy curls start with healthy ingredients, and we believe that what you put on your hair and scalp is important. As such, clean beauty means no harsh or harmful chemicals and damaging ingredients in your products.
The Clean Beauty Movement has turned into a leading global trend, with many of us becoming more socially aware of our climate. If you're anything like me, then you are always looking at ways where you can keep things simple with the products you use, and being eco friendly.
We break down what clean beauty is and how you can start to incorporate healthier products into your routine.
What is National Clean Beauty Day?
Celebrated on the 15th July, National Clean Beauty Day is a celebration of beauty brands who have developed products that are clean and sustainable, and created mindfully. These products are not tested on animals, contain clean healthy ingredients, are free from harsh chemicals, and are ethically sourced all while catering to the environment and the health of our bodies in mind.
How to build your own clean beauty routine in 3 easy steps
A healthy scalp always means healthy curls, so starting a new routine doesn’t need to be hard. It can be overwhelming figuring out to where to start when there are so many products that house a whole host of ingredients. The one thing I have learnt is to not rush and take your time. These 3 simple tips should help you in starting your own clean beauty routine.
- Keep your routine simple
Start with what you have and go from there. You don’t need to go out and buy a whole new haircare set. Finish up what you have and then look around for cleaner and healthier alternatives. Clean curl care doesn't have to be complicated.
- Research the brand and their products
I don’t know about you, but I find it is always nice to know a brands ethos and what they stand for. Our plant powered curl care is made within the UK and in small batches to ensure the freshness of each product. And along with our eco-friendly shipping, our custom boxes are 100% recyclable and biodegradable. With all of our packaging inserts and fillers being biodegradable and made with plant-based ink.
- Get to know your ingredients
As a basis, it is good to know what ingredients aren't particularly suitable for curly hair. Sulphates, silicones and parabens are the starting point. So, ensure you check the INCI (International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredient) list to see if there are any of these drying and harsh ingredients in your products before you make a purchase. Luckily, our products are free from these harsh ingredients, making it easier for you to make the right decision when filtering our clean beauty products!
At Flora & Curl, all of our products follow a strict ingredients policy to ensure the safety and effectiveness of our formulas. In addition, all of our ingredients meet the criteria set out in the European Union Directive for Cosmetic Safety. This is the strictest cosmetic safety standard in the world.
It can be tricky to know all the harmful ingredients – trust us, there are a lot, but it is great to know a few key ingredients to avoid that will not be damaging to your curls overtime. Take a look at our full NO-LIST to help understand what ingredients we give a hard NO to.
Soothe Me with refreshing Coconut and Mint
Our Soothe Me collection is formulated to provide soothing relief to scalp issues such as dandruff, itchiness, flakiness, and overall support for a healthier scalp. With ingredients such as Lavender, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, Willow Bark Extract and raw mineral clays, you can soothe your scalp naturally. Our 360 plant-powered scalp care range promotes hair growth and removes scalp build-up.
Formulated with APISCALP™ - an innovative, plant-powered active that is naturally derived from celery seeds. This Soothe Me collection is designed to regulate sebum production, balance the scalp and deliver scalp comfort to keep your scalp happy.
If you're not sure on where to start to pamper your scalp, then why not start with a pre-shampoo.
Our Coconut Mint Pre-Shampoo Oil is a great wash day starter. It is perfect at melting away dirt and product build up, and priming your scalp before shampooing while giving yourself a relaxing head massage.
Have you ever met a 2-in-1 clay treatment that will reset your curls and gently clarify your scalp.....We'll wait. Our Coconut Mint Curl Refresh Clay Wash is formulated for all curl types, and is a natural powder that will cut the time you spend on wash day while bringing you shine, clarify your scalp and bring back the definition you deserve. While our clay wash is suitable for curls, it is not suited for coloured treated curls.
If you feel you need an extra bit of a cleanse, then our Coconut Mint Scalp Refresh Shampoo will do the trick. This all round scalp care shampoo will soothe, remove product build up and naturally clarify your scalp. It is also a great relief if you have any flakes or suffer from a dry scalp.
Conditioning is one of, if not the most important part of wash day. Well, for me it is. This is a chance to bring moisture and hydration to your curls, and our Coconut Mint Curl Refresh Conditioner does just that. Curlier hair tends to be the driest of hair types, so a nourishing and soothing conditioner that aids in detangling and moisture replenishment is a real treat.
Our Coconut Mint Scalp Refresh Mist is great for a mid week refresh, or providing calmness to your scalp whenever your scalp is feeling irritated, dry, flaky or itchy.
Much like our skin, deciding what you put on your hair and scalp is important. Harsh, harmful and barrier-forming ingredients found in conventional haircare products can disrupt the natural harmony of our scalp. Such ingredients prevent moisture and increase dry hair and scalp issues.
With a focus on plant-powered hydration and conscious curl care in mind, we have taken the guess work out for you and simplified each curl routine so that your curl goals can be met, naturally.
We are always here to answer any questions you may have whether it be about the plant powered ingredients we use, or our recyclable packaging boxes. Please feel free to email us at email@example.com with your questions.Naturally yours,
The Team at Flora & Curl
